WHO WE ARE
WHAT WE STAND FOR
Lisa Copass, CEO and Founder
In 2019, I founded CloudHaus Dwellings, LLC in an effort to help tackle a crisis that had become impossible to ignore: the growing shortage of safe, affordable housing - especially in wildfire prone regions like Northern California where I lived at the time.
CloudHaus exists to re-imagine what’s possible in the way we build housing - to illuminate a path forward for 21st century safe and cost-effective home ownership. We’re not just offering a revolutionary housing solution, we’re redefining the home building market. The opportunity is massive and the time to build differently is now.
The spark for the inception of CloudHaus came during a drive I took in 2018, to visit my mother, not long after the devastating Sonoma Tubbs fires. My mother had to evacuate her home three separate times. One time the fire came right up to her neighbor’s yard. That hit home—literally.
This particular day, as I made my way along Highway 12, as I had done a thousand times before the fires, the landscape become unrecognizable. To my left, I saw miles of devastation - entire neighborhoods reduced to ash and twisted metal. The only things left standing were brick chimneys, a burned-out car frame, and the occasional steel staircase. It was haunting. What shocked me even more was what I saw on the other side of the highway - new homes being framed with timber, the same combustible material that had just fueled so much loss.
It wasn’t just emotional—it was deeply irrational. Why would we rebuild the same way and expect different results? That moment stuck with me, especially as I thought about my own mother, living with Parkinson and having to navigate her own evacuations multiple times.
As someone with a background in home construction and inspections, I’d already witnessed the vulnerabilities of timber-framed homes firsthand. Mold, termites, poor wood quality, and rapid warping and dilapidation weren’t exceptions—they were common. Add in the severe shortage of contractors, rising material costs, and stagnant building innovation, and it became clear: we’re still building homes the way we did 200 years ago.
I spent several years researching. I explored alternative materials, evaluated building methods, and studied how to solve multiple problems at once - fire resistance, durability, affordability, energy-efficiency, speed of construction, and scalability. We built two prototypes and were convinced we had a rock solid alternative to the norm.
That work led to the creation of CloudHaus: a new kind of home building company that uses prefabricated, panelized home building kits with Metal-SIPs as the framing and insulating structural building material. The result is a safer, longer-lasting home that is highly energy-efficient, builds 50% faster than timber framing and lasts for hundreds of years.
The best part of a CloudHaus home is it looks like any other home on the block. You select your home design. We manufacture and prepare your home building kit and ship it to your property in 10-12 weeks, ready to install on site. Because this is a panelized kit, parts are shipped in components on flat deck trucks.
This is not a modular home entirely built in a factory and delivered by “wide-load” and craned into place. We’ve taken a different approach - 60% of your home components are prefabricated in factories and shipped in two delivers according to your building schedule timeline. This is your CloudHaus Kit.
This means that the homeowner is responsible for developing the land according to the structural engineering stamped plans. We work with the land owner, as well as, the structural engineering and architectural design team to adjust the home design so it is guaranteed to receive a building permit. The property owner is then free to select his own general contractors or elect the DIY route. No special training is required. We provide training and installation guides as well as videos and one-on-one customer support.
We look forward to making your dream home a reality.
Warm Regards,
