Sadly our planet is in the fight of its life. Climate change is resulting in the the intensity and frequency of fires, droughts, floods, wind storms and other erratic weather patterns. Construction that was appropriate 100, 200, 300 years ago is no longer stable enough to support and keep inhabitants safe. Thus we must evolve and adapt to new ways of survival, including the "structure" and "bones" of the dwellings we live in.
Yes, dwellings can be aesthetically beautiful and appealing and safe. Understanding the construction technology, the architectural design and the building materials that go into a dwelling is just as important as having a beautiful place to call home. The question then becomes not "if" but "when" a climate event will occur. There is never a 100% guarantee that any home would survive a major event, however best chance of survival would include ensuring all bases are covered. Hazard-resistant and durable building practices, structural integrity and building materials combined will provided homeowners peace of mind - that they have done everything possible to mitigate property damage and potential loss of life. |
